SMS Supercars previews 460 and 460X Mustangs

The Saleen name has been taking some hard knocks for the past year. First, Saleen, Inc. went under and went up for sale. The company's assets and trademarks were bought, ending up in the hands of MJ Acquisitions, but that company announced that they would not be covering Saleen's previous warranties. Things looked dark. But then Steve Saleen announced that he and his new company, SMS Supercars, would cover the warranties. Things looked up. Well, at the Ford Mustang's 45th Anniversary today in Birmingham, Alabama, Mr. Saleen released some details on the new Mustang model he is creating.

PRESS RELEASE

Steve Saleen ponies up, celebrates 25 years in the business and 45 years of Mustangs with 2010 SMS 460 Mustang

Orange County, California. (April 17, 2009) Steve Saleen, his name being synonymous with fast Mustangs, would not be Steve if he kept his hands off Ford's newest pony. On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the launch of the original Mustang in 1964, and in reflection on his 25 year association with America's iconic sports car, Steve celebrates with Mustang aficionados from around the world in launching first sketches of the 2010 SMS 460 and SMS 460X Mustangs at the 45th Anniversary Celebrations in Birmingham, Alabama.

Instantly recognizable as Steve Saleen's work, the new SMS 460 Mustangs feature a host of visual and technical highlights that set them apart from the crowd. "I previewed many of the features of my newest Mustang with the 25th anniversary car I showed last year," says SMS Supercars CEO and President Steve Saleen.

The front fascia treatment, the SMS Red Butterfly Air Induction HoodTM, the front and side splitters, the rear fascia and diffuser with the high down-force rear wing showed the way Steve Saleen is looking at Mustangs today. "You have to go with the times. While the Mustang remains an icon, Ford has done a very good job with the 2010 model. I wanted to interpret it using my signature to create the latest Steve Saleen version of this American favorite."

The SMS 460 Mustang offers a 4.6 liter V8 engine featuring a minimum 470 hp and 427 ft-lb of torque, while the even more powerful SMS 460X Mustang engine with all new internal and headwork delivers 655 hp and 600 ft-lb out of the enlarged 5.0 liter V8. Both use the new (patent pending) SMS 296 Supercharger presented last week at the New York International Auto Show. Transmission options are a 5-speed automatic or 5-speed manual on the 460 or a 6-speed SMST manual on the top of the line 460X.

Performance for both cars is expectedly striking. The 460 Mustang accelerates from 0 to 60 in the low 4 seconds, while the 460X manages the same in the lower 4's. In addition to engine output, handling, roadholding and braking play an equally important role. The 2010 SMS 460 Mustangs feature Steve's signature Watt's linkage suspension with all-new geometry. New SMS brakes front and rear deliver impressive stopping power to match the jaw-dropping performance.

The interior with all-new Alcantara and leather SMS performance seats features the patented Signature Series chevron stripes. Dash and interior panels are covered in hand-stitched high-quality leather. Multiple seat chevron and SMS unique exterior colors are available.

More details about Steve Saleen's latest Mustang will be revealed in the spring of 2009, deliveries are expected to start mid-summer. Customers interested in buying a SMS 460 and SMS 460X Mustang can either contact SMS Supercars directly at www.smssupercars.com or by calling (714) 400 2121.

Novitec Rosso Revealed New TuLesto Supercar to Celebrate 20th Anniversary

Famed Deutsch tuner of all Prancing Horse models, Novitec Rosso, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the creation of an extremely limited production supercar that will be built in a mere 11 units called TuLesto - now you know why we prefer that German makers stick to alphanumeric names. In its official release, Novitec Ross makes no mention to Ferrari but we cannot help but notice the similarities in the design with the F430. Still, it remains to be seen if the TuLesto is actually based on the Italian supercar.

A brief look at the specifications confirm that Novitec most proud of their creation may be from a big 4.4 liter V8 get them through the installation of two super chargers no less than 777 hp and 727 Nm torque. Even more fun is if we weight them search through the application of aluminum and carbon fiber is the TuLesto only 1260 kg. The power-weight ratio is therefore 1.62 kg / hp and that translates itself in very good performance. From zero to 100 time less than 3.4 seconds, 22.6 seconds while the 300 km / h is ticking. The top speed is more than 350 km / h, more than enough for home, garden and kitchen applications.

A price Novitec has not yet issued, but do not wait too long to order. There are only 11 built and that would pretty quickly be sold.

NOVITEC TuLesto with 777 hp and a Top Speed of More than 350 km/h

The World's Most Exclusive High-End Sports Car

There are many fascinating automobiles money can buy but its spectacular design, its uncompromising high-performance concept and its limited edition of just eleven cars make the new NOVITEC TuLesto the most exclusive high-end sports car in the world.

The mid-engine racer is 204 centimeters wide and weighs in at just 1,260 kilograms. It is built by German automobile manufacturer NOVITEC in Stetten in Bavaria. At the heart of the two-seater is a V8 engine with dual superchargers and a rated power output of 777 hp / 571.8 kW. Thanks to its carbon fiber and aluminum construction the coupe has an excellent power-to-weight ratio of just 1.62 kg/hp. The result is driving performance that only very few super sports cars can match: The sprint from rest to 100 km/h takes less than 3.4 seconds, and the NOVITEC TuLesto reaches 300 km/h after just 22.6 seconds. Top speed is more than 350 km/h.

The new high-end sports car represents NOVITEC's first proprietary car and marks the company's 20th anniversary. "With the NOVITEC TuLesto we transform our collective know-how from two decades of automobile tuning into an uncompromising high-performance sports car for eleven of our long-time customers from around the world," says NOVITEC managing director Wolfgang Hagedorn. "The TuLesto offers an optimal symbiosis of exceptional driving dynamics and exciting yet aerodynamically efficient styling."

Light-weight construction was one of the main goals from the very start of the project. The designers' materials of choice are normally found in racecars. The chassis and the integrated safety cell are made entirely from aluminum, making them extremely light while at the same time giving them extraordinary rigidity.

The striking design of the sports car is the result of a cooperation between NOVITEC and the Italian design studio Luca Serafini Stile in Modena. The unmistakable shape of the TuLesto was created using state-of-the-art CAD and CFD technologies, further augmented by the use of the wind tunnel. The TuLesto is 462 centimeters long, 204 centimeters wide and has a height of 122 centimeters.

The spectacular curves of the fenders, the front apron, the shape of the rear and the smooth underbody with integrated venturi tunnel and diffuser were calibrated in the wind tunnel to create an optimal aerodynamic balance.

For perfect weight distribution the NOVITEC TuLesto was designed with a classic mid-engine layout. The 4.4-liter four-valve V8 engine with dual superchargers is installed directly behind the cockpit. The high-tech engine produces a maximum power output of 777 hp / 571.8 kW at 8,200 rpm and a peak torque of 727 Nm at 6,300 rpm.

Motorsports was also the inspiration for the power transfer: The six gears of the semi-automatic gearbox with integrated anti-slip differential are shifted with carbon-fiber paddles behind the steering wheel. An adjustable traction control system with launch control for perfect starts guarantees maximum driving safety on the road and on the track.

The NOVITEC engineers and technicians also used racing technology on the suspension: As in GT-series racing, the TuLesto features double-wishbone suspension front and rear, height-adjustable struts with various selectable damping rates, and adjustable sway bars. For easy negotiating of underground parking ramps or similar obstacles the TuLesto front can be raised four centimeters at the push of a button. The anti-lock braking system features ceramic composite discs and six-piston fixed calipers front and back for maximum stopping power and endurance.

Another elementary contribution to the superior driving dynamics of the NOVITEC TuLesto comes from its ultra-light light-alloy wheels with diameters of 20 or 21 inches. These wheels were custom-developed for this coupe and are fitted with semi slicks up to 355 millimeters wide on the rear axle.

The interior design has a decidedly sporty nature but also offers creature comforts such as a climate-control system and a high-end sound system. Lightweight carbon fiber plays a dominating role in the interior as well: It is used for dashboard, center console and door trim as well as for the bucket seats which will be custom-fitted in form, shape, size, color and upholstery to each of the eleven future owners.

Hartge BMW X6 Revealed

The twin-turbo 3.0 liter diesel gets a working to the tune of 328 hp and 675 Nm of torque. That brings the 2,185 kg mass that is the X6 from 0 to 100 km/h in under 6 seconds, as opposed to the standard model’s time of 6.9. Hartge has measured the derestricted maximum speed at 256 km/h.

All this is riding on Hartge’s 22-inch “Classic 2″ wheels fitted with 295/30ZR22 at the front and 335/25ZR22 tires at the rear. On the inside is a series of carbon paneling and parts, including a 3-spoke Hartge leather steering wheel.

The engine work is only a small part of the story. The aerodynamic kit made of PUR-RIM, an ultra-lightweight polyurethane plastic, helps make that sprint time and top speed possible. The kit includes a front spoiler and skirt at the back beholding an integrated diffuser and stainless-steel tailpipes in a quadrilateral shape. A Hartge suspension set also lowers the X6 by 30 mm.

The full Hartge package for the X6 xDrive35d will set you back 29,353.94 euros, all parts and labor included.

LSD Released New Wing Doors for the Nissan GT-R

LSD Design released information on their new wing doors for the Nissan GT-R. The creatively named LSD Flügeltürbeschläge, which is not actually a good choice for a "safe word" with your dominatrix, is one more step in the quest by aftermarket parts makers to customize every Nissan GT-R that comes off the line.

These wings are much easier to use than they are to pronounce, since the company used the original mounting points that Nissan used. When getting out, simply open the door slightly outward, and let it go up in the air. Closing the doors is done in one fluid motion.

We kid, of course. "Flügeltürbeschläge" loosely translates from German as a more multisyllabic way of saying "fitted wing door." For €1949, you get the accessory with roller guides, to guarantee precision every time the door is opened or closed. The guides are also adjustable, to ensure the best fit possible. Also nice is that the doors can bolt on pretty easily, "without welding and paint work," according to the design firm.

The wings are now commercially available. Sadly, you will probably not be able to score a license plate that says "Flügeltürbeschläge".

A FAB Design SLR supercar named 'Desire' Details

Specialist Mercedes Benz tuner FAB Design has already taken on the controversial Maybach 57S limousine this year, but now the company has revealed its most astonishing work to date - this time on the Mercedes McLaren SLR supercar.

The most striking aspect of the FAB Design SLR 'Desire' at first would have to be its wild Batmobile-esque appearance at the front, as well as the extensive aerodynamic modifications at the rear and side. The redesigned body has been manufactured out of carbon-fiber, and certain parts of it remain unpainted to give onlookers a taste of what lies beneath the usual paint.

BMW announcing 335i Coupe based RS35 Biturbo

RDSport, aka Racing Dynamics, is taking the competition to other BMW tuners by announcing the arrival of the 335i Coupe based RS35 Biturbo. Upgrades have been made to extract more performance out of a car widely acknowledged as one of the leaders in its class.

Bodywork changes include a carbon fiber front bumper with bigger air intakes and carbon housing for the fog lights. There are also deeper side skirts, a different rear apron, quad tailpipes and a rear roof spoiler. The car rides on larger 20-inch wheels while at the same time sitting 25mm lower at the front and 20mm lower at the rear.

The engine is improved by modifying some electronic components for the purpose of improving boost, and optimising fuel and timing. A larger intercooler and free-flowing intake were installed to increase air supply.

The interior is littered with RDSport logos as well as aluminium inserts on pieces like the hand brake and pedals.

Power has thus gone up from the stock 302bhp (225kW) and 295 lb-ft (400Nm) to the RDSport-certified 414bhp (309kW) and maximum torque of 404 lb-ft (548Nm). So it matches the M3 on power but trumps it on torque. The Italian based tuner also got the RS35 homologised by the TUV in Germany.

2009 MTM Green Audi R8

German tuning firm MTM has announced a new individualization program for the Audi R8 that gives the everyday supercar a unique look and a healthy dose of added performance.

To maximize the usefulness of this added performance, MTM equips their R8's with an extensive aerodynamic carbon fiber body kit that includes a front splitter, new side skirts, and a rear diffuser. In a nod to practicality, the MTM R8 also features a Lift-up-System which can raise the axles by 40 millimeters to prevent bottoming out when entering parking garages or going over speed bumps.

Being true to their tuner roots, MTM offers added performance from both of the R8's engines. The standard R8's 4.2-liter V8 gains a modified compressor system which ups the engine's output from 420 hp (313 kW) and 430 Nm of torque to 560 hp (418 kW) and 580 Nm of torque. For the V10 engine, MTM installs new engine electronics which boosts the car's horsepower rating from 520 hp (388 kW) to 560 hp (418 kW). Other performance minded modifications include a new exhaust system and redesigned side-blades that increase airflow to the engine.

To give their version of the car an exclusive appearance, MTM paints the R8's exterior "Porsche 2D8" green which is the same color that is used on the Porsche GT3 RS. The car rides on a special set of glossy-black ultra-light MTM Bimoto alloy wheels, which measure 9x20 and 11x20, and come with green badging that declares "MTM forged." Elsewhere the green theme continues as the black brake calipers and fuel cap receive a discrete green "R8" logo.

Press Release

Nothing off the peg: MTM individual makes the Audi R8 unique

• New programme at MTM fulfils every customer wish
• Motoren Technik Mayer paints the Audi R8 in original GT3 Porsche green colour
• Compressor modification increases the performance by a third to 560 hp (418 kW)
• Aerodynamics kit made of carbon fibre pushes the super sports car on the tarmac
• Forged wheels MTM Bimoto in 9x20 and 11x20 inches
• Height-adjustable chassis springs for Magnetic Ride System and serial dampers

Customers who want to avoid that their neighbours suddenly shows up with the same car, are now given a guarantee by MTM that this will certainly not happen. The new programme MTM individual meets all customer wishes and creates a unique automobile. Therefore, MTM allows an individualisation of the car, as far as the ideas of the customer reach. Nothing can top this exclusivity.

Motoren Technik Mayer (MTM) now shows what the individualisation programme offers. Following customer requirements, the automobile manufacturer from the Upper Bavarian town Wettstetten has modified the Audi R8 to such an extent that a unique sports machine has been created and there is no second car like that.

The most striking novelty of the middle-engine super sports car with the aluminium body is the garish green paint. "Porsche 2D8" is the exact name of this brash colour which became famous on the Porsche GT3. With this work, MTM confirms its love for details. As apart from the large-scale paint of the aluminium body, the internationally successful car refiner also painted areas in the engine compartment and has left further accents all over the car. Therefore, not only the colouring is unique, but also the manufacture.

On all four black brake callipers and on the black fuel cap, there is a green "R8" nameplate. The ultra-light MTM Bimoto light alloy wheels measuring 9x20 and 11x20 inches in glossy black, show the green nameplate "MTM forged" on one spoke per wheel and therefore refer to the high-quality forged technology of the rim. In the interior, the exciting car colour repeats at the seams of the suede MTM steering wheel and the "Quattro" nameplate on the glove department flap. Also, the "R8" logo on the gear-shift shines in green.

But the striking colour does not reduce MTM´s own stylishness. Therefore, Motoren Technik Mayer sticks to the characteristic two-colour paint which is typical for the Audi R8. Behind the doors an area measuring 12 inches and painted in glossy black renders a contrast and gives the car a distinctive R8-appearance.

MTM-Compressor confers the V8-engine with 560 hp

And MTM would not be MTM when they settled with a new paint. Therefore, they also offer a significant performance enhancement. The especially developed compressor technology which made MTM famous all over the world, propels the performance of the V8-engine with 4.2 litres cubic capacity from 420 hp (313 kW) by a third up to breathtaking 560 hp (418 kW). Also the maximum torque increases by 34 percent from 430 to 580 Newton metres. MTM also offers this enormous power improvement for the Audi R8 with the V10-engine. By exchanging the motor electronics, the performance of the latter then increases from 520 hp (388 kW) to 560 hp (418 kW) as well.

The right sound is rendered by the new exhaust system with valve control which leads into four black ceramic-coated end pipes. Re-engineered side-blades which direct the airflow from behind the doors right into the middle engine provide the necessary air supply.

In order to transfer the newly gained power on the road, an extensive aerodynamics package renders the necessary downthrust. At the front, the splitter made of carbon fibre which is painted green on the top and matt black on the bottom thrusts the automobile on the tarmac. The side skirts and the rear diffuser, both also entirely made of green varnished carbon fibre hold the rear axle of this 4WD automobile on the road. Therefore, the MTM R8 achieves top speeds on the race track. In order to avoid hitting the ground on road bumps or garage exits, MTM added its Lift-up-System. This optionally elevates the front- or rear axle by 40 millimetres and enables the driver to master all everyday chicanes.

With the Audi R8 makeover, the world-wide renowned automobile manufacturer confirms that there are no limits to individual cars from MTM. This leads to exclusive automobiles in the highest production quality, precisely designed according to the wishes of the customer.

UgurSahinDesign Mallett Z03: A Sexy, 999 HP Twin-Turbo Corvette Cruise Missile

With its UgurSahinDesign-penned exotic sheet-metal and Mallett-engineered 999 HP twin-turbo V8 Corvette Z03 is looking more fleshed out than when we last saw it just over one year ago.

In fact, it's more likely to be mistaken for a wild new Lamborghini or Lotus than half-of-a-Z06. So if you've felt your standard Vette was a bit pedestrian and you didn't make it on to the ZR1 waitlist, USD has teamed up with Mallett Cars to create this limited edition conversion. From the images we've seen it's clear the design benchmark for this vehicle is more of the Italian, mid-engined variety than anything available on this side of the Atlantic. The cost of looking good will set you back $69,000 on top of the cost of your donor Corvette.

Video: 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster and 2009 350 hp Nissan NISMO 370Z w

The 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster and 2009 Nissan NISMO 370Z will be unveiled during a live webcast tonight at 7 PM EST, but we've got the details on both models ahead of their official debut.

For those who find the standard 370Z too pedestrian for their tastes, a NISMO edition is on its way later this year. Like the last NISMO Z, the 2009 model sports a larger rear wing, new bumper and an aggressive front splitter, along with standard 19-inch RAYS ultra-lightweight wheels shod in Yokohama Advan Sport tires. The suspension and brakes get the usual array of upgrades to make the NISMO more amenable to track use and the VQ V6 gets a bump up from 332 hp to 350 hp at 7,400 rpm, thanks in part to a new exhaust and a revised ECU. Power goes from the close ratio six-speed manual 'box (the only transmission available) to the rear axle through a carbon fiber driveshaft. Press releases and specs for both cars are after the jump, and expect pricing and availablity to be announced before spring gives way to summer.

The Roadster retains the same greasy bits as the coupe, but adds open air action in the form of a new power-operated, fully-lined fabric top with a glass rear window. The top automatically connects to the windshield header so the driver doesn't have to fiddle around with a latch and it can be lowered or raised from inside or out, through the use of an interior-mounted switch or a button on the door handle. A glass wind blocker between the headrests keeps buffeting to a minimum without impacting visibility, and although we haven't seen the new 370Z convertible with its top up, we've been assured it's far more attractive than its predecessor.
